WebOct 30, 2024 · Freelander 2: Whining noise when lifting foot of accelerator I'm in the market for a Freelander and test drove one this morning. It was a 2014 SD4 SE with milage of around 80k. Vehicle is in great condition but there is a slight whining noise when I lift my foot of the accelerator. It happened at all speeds. This was then fixed, but one month later the gearbox completly failed on the motorway in France causing the car to grind to a halt.

This is because it is pretty hi-tech - for a Land Rover anyway - and adjusts inlet path, cam lift and valve timing depending on external conditions.
