You'd think that the dealership would have known of the problem if it was leaking fuel (in the showroom) but that probably wasn't the case given that the tank wasn't full at that time. WebJul 13, 2011 · It occurs everytime I fill the tank up above ~2.5-3.0 gallons and once it gets back down to that level it stops. I lifted the tank cover up and noticed that at a certain angle the fuel will start flowing through the overflow hose again. If I put the tank cover back down it is fine (until I fill up). WebThe biggest reason a carburetor will leak gas is if the gasket that sits on top of the carburetor bowl is brittle or worn. This bowl on the carburetor is what holds gas that is getting prepared to be sucked into the engine. With the gas sitting there, it’s easy for the gas to leak if the gasket isn’t doing it’s job.
WebJan 18, 2024 · 1) The tank is WAY over filled. 2) You have an exhaust pipe or an exhaust leak heating the bottom of the tank or petcock or fuel line causing the gas to BOIL and vaporize at that point. And yes that can happen while the rest of the tank and the top of the gas still feels relatively cool.

If the float bowl, my initial guess would be a stuck float valve or debris in the seat. You might try opening the bowl drain and tapping on the bowl while fuel runs through.
